Bershar was the son of Hower on Obsidian. He observed the arrival of the Liberator in orbit with his father and the presence on the surface of Tarrant and Dayna, who they considered mercenaries. In charge of security, Bershar led a party to tranquilise the pair and take them down to their underground base.

Tarrant and Dayna explained their opposition to the Federation and desire for a base and recruits. Although Bershar was dismissive of them, Tarrant sensed that he was not as committed to the Pyroans' ideals of pacifism and neutrality as Hower was and attempted to negotiate a secret deal with him. However, Bershar was already working for Servalan. He took Tarrant and Dayna to the surface where Mori was waiting with a group of troopers. Bershar provided the Federation group with teleport bracelets to board the Liberator with, but refused to let them kill Tarrant and Dayna, insisting they stay behind with him.

Bershar monitored the situation in space as the Liberator drove off the Federation fleet but remained convinced the Federation would triumph eventually. He was interrupted by Hower, who had realised his deception and noted that Bershar's conditioning had failed, something the therapists had warned off when he was a child. Bershar continued to insist that there was no way to stop the Federation and that he wasn't willing to die for Hower's ideals. Hower denounced him, saying the animal ruled him, and Bershar was killed by the Pyroans' android with a lethal dose of tranquiliser. (C: Volcano)
