Film recordist was a role in a television crew. Also known as film sound, location sound recordist, film sound recordist or sound mixer. For Blake's 7, the credits are consistently billed as "film recordist" through series A to C, whilst series D has variations with eight episodes using the credit of "film sound".
The role was responsible for capturing audio during recording on film (used for location but also for visual effects), making sure recorded clearly and accurately. Work in the studio, usually involved with videotape, was a similar but separate role, credited as studio sound.
There was no film recordist credited at all for Orbit as this episode did not feature any film footage, apart from short visual effects sequences.
