The alien was from a species who viewed death as an interim state. Entombed on board a spaceship that was cast adrift in space, the alien eventually encountered the Liberator. The alien established a link with Cally, who soon after boarded the ship with Avon and Vila. The alien influenced Cally into taking both its ring and an artifact. The alien tried to kill Avon and Vila by stranding them on the spaceship as it was about to explode, but was forced to allow them to teleport back when it became clear Cally would not leave without them.

The alien influenced Cally into activating the artifact then completed the link, draining energy from both her and the Liberator in order to create a physical form for itself, based on Cally. The alien took control of the flight deck, quickly subduing Vila. When Tarrant confronted it, she demonstrated telekinetic abilities and proved impervious to his gun. She explained she wished to take the Liberator back to her home world, a journey which would take longer than a human lifetime, and gave the crew a choice between serving her on the journey or dying.

Dayna entered the flight deck but, like Tarrant and Vila, was quickly reduced to cowering from the alien. However, Avon refused to submit, goading her into trying to kill him. This caused Cally's mind to rebel and break free of the energy drain, as the alien's powers wrecked the flight deck systems. Avon kissed the alien in order to retrieve the ring, which he had guessed was the source of its power, The alien lamented that it had spent centuries alive and sentient in nothingness and begged Avon not to send it back but he tossed the ring onto a burning console, destroying it. The alien crumbled away to nothing. (C: Sarcophagus)
